In early 2000 my housemate Andrew Barrow and I decided we needed a chess timer. In one evening we designed and produced what you see below. When you throw the toggle switch it begins counting and the LED flashes once per second. After 20 seconds the LED flash rate changes and the buzzer starts beeping. After 10 more seconds the LED and buzzer flat-line and your opponent gets to move your piece. The big red button resets the count.
